INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY

This course provides the student the opportunity to be introduced to three areas of study in Industrial Technology: Communication, Construction, and Manufacturing.
Communication-Expand their basic knowledge of drafting techniques of mechanical drafting.
Construction-Discover construction projects (bridges, highways, dams, tunnels) other than residential construction.
Manufacturing-Expand their basic knowledge of woodworking methods and techniques through projects.  Power tools and their safety are discussed.

WOODS

Prerequiste: Introduction to Industrial Technology

This course provides the students the opportunity to expand on the basic woodworking methods and techniques that was introduced in "Intro in Tech" course.  An emphasis will be placed on wood identification, woodworking tools and equipment, and designing through projects and the textbook.

The student will complete a large woodworking project of student's choice subject to instructor's approval.

METALS

Prerequiste: Introduction of Industrial Technology

This course provides the students an introduction metallurgy.  The course will focus on four areas: welding, sheet metal, foundry, and machining.  The area of welding will involve oxygen/actylene, arc, and MIG (wire) welding.  The sheet metal area will cover bending, cutting, and fabrication.  The foundry will cover processes in forging, casting, heat treatment, and metallurgy.  The machining area will touch on the lathe and milling operations.  This will be accomplished through projects and the textbook.

The student will:
-complete four welding tests
-complete three sheet metal activities
-complete metals project of student's choice subject to instructor's approval.

ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING

Prerequiste: Introduction to Industrial Technology

This course provides the students the introduction to architectural drafting, building off the mechanical drafting from "Intro to Tech".  Architectural drafting fundamentals will be enhanced with topics of room by room planning, floor plans, elevations, construction details, foundation plans, electrical plans, plumbing plans, climate control plans, door and window schedules, interior elevations and exterior renderings.  This will be accomplished through the use of activities on CADD (computer-aided design and drafting) and the textbook.

The student will make a complete and detailed set of house plans of the the student's choice for a final project.

ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY

Prerequiste: Introduction to Industrial Technology

This course provides the student the opportuntiy to discover the principles to basic AC/DC electrical concepts and their applied uses in everyday life.  This course is an introduction to electrical devices and will provide the student the opportunity to discover the basic principles and processes involved in electronic components.  This will be accomplished through lab projects/activities that accompany the textbook.

The student will:
-discover AC/DC circuitry and their applications
-construct simple electrical circuits
-do residential wiring (switches, lights, receptacles)
-learn the proper use of tools and equipment
-learn how to use and work with electricity safely
-construct simple electronic projects
-operate a digtal multi-meter for testing circuits
-work with electronic components and their circuits

MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISE

Recommended: Introduction to Industrial Technology

This course provides the student the opportunity to apply the organizational and production management practices within a simulated manufacturing enterprise "mock corporation".  Topics to be covered and applied include: marketing, financing, human resources, quality, materials flow control, manufacturing cost control, manufacturing systems, engineering considerations, and manufacuring environment.

The student will:
-identify the organization of industries as related to personnel, materials, finacial affairs, and product manufacturing.
-review the changes occuring in modern industries in terms of labor, materials, and current manufacturing technologies.
-utilize computer-aided design, various industrial tools, machines, and materials to develop quality products.
-identify, examine, and develop solutions for problems typical of manufacturing industries.
-set up a mock corporation, design and manufacture a product (mass production), sell stock, and market product (advertising).

BUILDING & TRADES 1

Prerequiste: Introduction to Industrial Technology

This first course will prepare the student in two areas of residential construction: "Preparing to Build" and "Footings, Foundations, and Framing".  Student will be introduced  to building materials, general safety, hands and power tools, leveling instruments, plans and specifications, footings and foundations, floor framing, wall & ceiling framing, and roof framing in residential construction.  The student will accomplish this through lab activities and the textbook.

The student will be in a group of 2-3 students to build a scale model single story hip roof house.

BUILDING & TRADES 2

Prerequiste: Building & Trades 1

This second course will prepare the student in two areas of residential construction: "Closing In" and "Finishing".  Student will be introduced to roofing materials and methods, windows and exterior doors, exterior wall finish, thermal and sound insulation, interior wall and ceiling finish, finish flooring, stair construction, doors and interior trim, cabinetmaking, and painting, finishing, and decorating in residential construction.  The student will accomplish this through lab activities and the textbook.

The student will be a in a group of 2-3 students to build a scale model two story townhouse with trusses.
The student will individually build a scale model utility shed.

SMALL ENGINE REPAIR

This course provides the student an introduction to small gas engines.  Small gas engine construction, operation, lubrication, maintenance, troubleshooting, service, rebuilding, and repair will be covered in this course.

Hands on activities include taking an engine apart and reassembling it, repairing and/or rebuilding engines on lawn mowers.
Students should have a thorough  understanding of engine fundamentals and service procedures upon completion of course.

POWER MECHANICS

Prerequiste: Small Engine Repair

This course provides the student an introduction to power transmission systems & overhauling transmissions, clutches, brakes, tune-up and general service, and careers in atvs, motorcycles, and other small engines.

Student will demonstrate their knowledge by working on their own atv, motorcycle, snowmobile, lawn mower, etc.
